A Message From The New Horizons Chapter Chief Ed Nahlik...
Dear Brothers,
Camp promotion, a great program to help introduce scouts to new adventures at the camps within GSLAC, is looking for those people who are willing to cheerfully serve their fellow scouts. Performing can be counted for Brotherhood advancement.
Each troop is asked to perform for a troop that is close to them. If you haven’t already signed up to
make a promotion then contact Jeremy Weltmer through the New Horizons website. One of the great programs that is being reinstated this year is OA Summer Camp. It is a week at camp Famous Eagle to further your involvement within the Order of the Arrow. All the facilities that the ranch has to offer will be open for use by the scouts; such as Huck’s cove, water tubing, and so much more. In addition to these great events, there will also be instruction on how to make regalia and Native American history. The deadline to register for this camp is May 1, 2008 so if you want to participate contact me or visit the Shawnee Lodge web page: www.shawneelodge.org.
Two great camping events are coming up: the Spring Conclave on April 18-20 and the Spring Camporee on April 25-27. The Spring Conclave is a must for those called out over the summer but who were not able to make it to the Fall Reunion. We are going to need Elangomats to lead the clans of those candidates who are completing their ordeal. This is a good opportunity for brothers who enjoy leadership or need a requirement signed off for brotherhood. We also plan on having food prepared for any ceremonialist who wants to sign up for it, to sign up have them contact me. Those brothers who completed their ordeal at the fall reunion but wish to see their ordeal ceremonies performed at night will have a chance to do so at the Spring Conclave. The Spring Camporee is another great way for scouts to meet new people by serving on staff. Staff is a lot of fun and can further a youth’s experience in the program.
Finally if the camporee isn’t the thing for you, there will be a service project on April 26 at Chesterfield Central City Park. We will be providing support for the city of Chesterfield’s annual Arbor Day celebration. Anyone under 18 who wishes to participate needs to have a signed permission form, which can be obtained through the New Horizons website homepage.
If you have any other questions, comments, or concerns feel free to contact me.
Yours in Brotherhood,
